There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us.
We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of
Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on
eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into
Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime,
hit the jump to check it out yourself.

Yes, that is a
Porsche 911. Yes, that is fresh concrete. No, this is not some uber-powerful aftermarket-tuned car that just liquified the San Francisco pavement underneath - the
Porsche was driven into this predicament.
Now before we start passing judgment on this poor soul, a driver who has so obviously burned more than his share of karmic bridges, let's just pause to thank him or her, both for providing us the enjoyment of this video and also for upholding certain reputations.
And let us also remember that the next time we're stuck in traffic because of road construction, to just put some Michael McDonald on the stereo and chill out, rather than trying to pass everyone by driving through the construction lane and getting stuck in fresh concrete.

Seasons may change, time may pass, but the
internet never forgets. It's been
six years since then-14-year-old Joey drove his father's brand-new
Ford Shelby GT500 through the back wall of the family's
garage. Video of the event and the ensuing carnage has racked up an astonishing 3.6 million views on YouTube on one account alone, and the clip remains a perennial classic. Now it looks like Joey is finally ready for a little redemption courtesy of the good people at Tosh.0. The show routinely features people who are internet stars for all the wrong reasons in the "web redemption" segment.
Daniel Tosh, the show's host, allows those maligned by the power of the internet one more shot at infamy while reenacting the event that made them infamous to begin with. Joey will explain his side of the GT500 calamity on the newest episode of Tosh.0 airing on February 21. Click
past the jump to see the crash one more time. Trust us, it never gets old.

It was only a matter of time before someone took a crack at parodying the most recent
Super Bowl commercial from
Chrysler.
Saturday Night Live has stepped up to the plate with a new skit featuring none other than
Bill Hader in
Clint Eastwood's shoes and scowl. The spot pokes fun at the unintentionally political ad, with Hader scowling his way through a third-quarter speech. We won't ruin the ending for you, but we will say the skit features the phrase "tiny little chicken legs." Comedy gold.
Chrysler came under fire shortly after the company's game-day spot aired. The commercial featured Clint Eastwood drawing parallels between the fall and resurrection of Detroit and the rest of America. Critics complained the spot was a thinly veiled argument for a second term for the Obama Administration. Eastwood, a republican who was vocally against the auto bailout, quickly denied those claims.
Hit the jump for both the SNL skit and the original ad.

Radio-controlled cars and trucks truly are a labor of love. An expensive hobby no matter which way you slice it, the costs get exponentially higher the more scale accurate you try to make your machines. And when you're talking R/C construction equipment, we'd wager that hundreds of dollars quickly turn into thousands of dollars.
Now that we've established that R/C machinery is an expensive hobby, let's talk about its impact as a time-sucking activity. After all, not only must you completely assemble and perfect your radio-controlled creations, you're certainly going to get them out to play with them. Or, if you're a particular Joe from Saskatchewan, you're going to do real-life work with them.
According to a massive
50-plus-page thread on scale4x4rc.org, every morning Joe gets to work by loading his scale R/C excavator onto the back of a specially made R/C semi truck, then pilots the not-so-heavy equipment into his basement construction site. And by every morning, we mean every morning since June of 2005. Now
that's dedication to the hobby. At the end of each day, all the newly excavated dirt and rubble is driven up a spiraling ramp and out the basement window.
Fortunately, Joe has documented his small-scale R/C basement construction project, so we can all gawk and gander at a full suite of photographs and videos showing how it's all been done. Check out the attached image gallery and the videos
after the break to see for yourself. We see only one problem... this leaves no way to eventually
win the heart of a girl.

Proving once again that you never know what you're going to come across on the road in Eastern Europe is the video we've pasted after the break. In it, you'll see an old beat-up SUV of unknown origin plodding its way through a residential area in Kazakhstan, a former member of the USSR. Sounds pretty normal, no?
Wait, what's that? Why is the driver-side rear wheel sticking several feet too far out of the wheel well? We have no idea. Whether simply the result of a broken axle or a quick-and-dirty, less-than-ideal roadside repair, the result is predictable.
We don't want to spoil the ending for you, so we suggest you
hit the jump to see how it all goes down.
