A Lotus Exige That Can Tangle With A Porsche 911 GT3 [Video]
It's more than sad that we won't be getting this run-out version of the Lotus Exige. Maybe it's because the company's U.S. air-bag exemption has run out, or that CEO Dany Bahar's pissed we weren't more excited about the company's new concepts. So, let's share a moment of vicarious pleasure with Chris Harris More »

Lotus Exige S Convertible: We Don’t Hate It [Geneva Motor Show]
Recent announcements from Dany Bahar's Lotus tend to be met with a mix of skepticism and dread. When we got a weird notice that Lotus would present a new convertible at Geneva, we expected the soft, Evora-based worst. Happily, the new convertible is an open version of the hardcore Exige S. More »
Report: 2012 Lotus Exige headed to U.S. as track-only car
Filed under: Motorsports, Coupe, Performance, Lotus, UK, Racing

Lotus may have something special for you if you're still mourning the loss of the Exige here in the States. According to the DuPont Registry, the British sports car maker may be planning to bring the new Exige S to the U.S. as a track-only vehicle for $85,000-$90,000. If true, that means American buyers will be able to sink their teeth into the same 345-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 European buyers are enjoying right now. If you're keeping tally, that's almost 100 horsepower more than the old Exige S260, and that grunt is good for a top speed of 170 mph and a 0-60 dash of 3.8 seconds.
As you may recall, the expiration of a smart-airbag exemption given to small volume automakers as well as difficulty sourcing a new powerplant (the 1.8-liter Toyota engine used in previous models ceased production) conspired to keep the Elise and Exige from American roads after the 2011 model year.
For those interested in a track-only car, the DuPont Registry indicates American that buyers will be able to take advantage of the vehicle's Dynamic Performance Management system, which provides drivers with three traction control settings. An additional Race Pack system may also bow with the vehicle, providing handy tools like launch control and suspension settings pre-dialed for most tracks.
Sounds like fun.

Video: 2012 Lotus Exige S squares off for The Duel
Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Marketing/Advertising, Videos, Lotus, UK

Lotus has rolled out a new trailer for the company's Exige S. Those who are easily tired by flashy cuts and metaphor may want to skip this one, as it pits the supercharged V6 hellion against a boxer. No, not a Porsche or Subaru boxer engine. An actual boxer, as in, a pugilist.
Our brows may be a bit too low to understand the concept at work here, but we appreciate a good advertisement when we see one. With plenty of tire smoke, lots of doughnuts and dramatic shots of the black body work on the Exige S, the clip hits all the right notes.
The Lotus Exige S packs 346 horsepower in a 2,380-pound track-bred package. The supercharged 3.5-liter V6 mounted mid-ship delivers 295 pound-feet of torque. Given that the old Exige S could clip off 0-60 mph runs in the 4.1 second range, we wouldn't be surprised to hear that the 2012 model can do the deed in the high three-second range. Hit the jump to take a look at the video.
