Rumormill: Ferrari to unveil all-wheel drive shooting brake in Geneva?
Filed under: Hybrid, Performance, Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari, Rumormill

We're anticipating a new Ferrari to be unveiled in a few months time at the Geneva Motor Show, but just what form - and arguably just as vitally, what technology - the new Prancing Horse will take has been the subject of much rumor and conjecture as of late.
Based on Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemolo's reported pronouncement that his company is preparing "a very different new Ferrari" for the Swiss salon, initial reports speculated that a production-ready hybrid could be in the cards. But the latest reports seem to call that into question.
So if not a hybrid, what has Maranello got in store for us? Most reports point towards a replacement for the 612 Scaglietti, the company's flagship (if somewhat lackluster) four-seat GT. Others suggest a shooting brake two-door wagon, while yet others report that whatever debuts will incorporate the company's part-time all-wheel drive system, if not necessarily a hybrid drivetrain. The truth probably lies in the combination of several of these reports, if not all of them, but we'll just have to sit tight to see what will lie underneath the veil come March.

If you're up on your latest cop dramas, you'll notice that Tom Selleck has not only got his mustache back, but he hardly looks like he's aged a day. Never mind that it's been decades since Magnum PI. But it's also been nearly that long since Ferrari made a GTS.
Those three letters are Maranello-speak for "targa" (dare we use the term on anything but a Porsche without getting a cease-and-desist letter?), and they went the way of the dodo after the 355 was phased out. Since then, it's been full convertibles or fixed-roof coupes, and nothing in between. Until this one came along, that is.
Called the 612 GTS Pavesi, this car is reportedly the latest product of Ferrari's in-house customization program. It's based on the 612 Scaglietti, and features a pair of removable carbon-fiber roof panels up top, a unique two-tone silver and black paint scheme, a revised front end and a reported output boost of 20 prancing horses to bring it up to 550 horsepower (possibly due to the custom Tubi exhaust installation). No word on who the owner is, but Pavesi is the name of an Italian producer of go-kart engines. Whoever it is, you can bet he or she paid handsomely for the privilege. Follow the jump for a closer look in a pair of spy videos.

It's been a hot minute since we've heard any rumblings about Ferrari's 612 Scaglietti replacement. The oldest member of the Prancing Horse marque is due for an overhaul in the very near future, and while we've only seen a singular spy video that barely shows off the new body style, we can confirm one thing: Ferrari makes one hell of a sweet-sounding V12.
Seen here running around Italy's Fiorano racetrack, this 612 mule is obviously testing out new engine mechanics, and the revised exhaust is an aural delight for anyone whose ears perk up at the sound of naturally aspirated, twelve-cylinder, Italian-bred powerhouses. See (and hear) for yourself, after the jump.
