Car accidents are never fun and often expensive. In certain parts of the world, accidents can be push expenses into the stratosphere, and Monte Carlo has reportedly just played host to such a fender bender. A woman was driving a
Bentley Azure near the Monte Carlo Casino when she doubled-down on a nearby
Mercedes-Benz S-Class. That scrape led to the Azure meeting a
Ferrari 430,
Aston Martin Rapide and
Porsche 911.
For the drooling bodyshop owners reading along, the UK's
Daily Mail notes this collision involves over a million dollars worth of machinery. Total damage estimates are reportedly much more modest, however, somewhere in the neighborhood of $65,000, but
judging by some of the pictures we've seen, such estimates seems laughably low.
Adding insult to injury? The driver and passengers of the
Bentley droptop couldn't get out of their car. Hundreds of tourist snapped photos of the carnage while the occupants of the Azure could only sit and smile for the cameras.
UPDATE: Sorry, no offense meant, title changed.

One of the brutal truths of the mechanical world is that rust fears no machine. Even the priciest of metal is susceptible to the ill effects of iron-oxide, and it looks like
Bentley has found that out firsthand. The
National Highway Transportation Safety Administration has just issued a recall for
Arnage,
Azure and
Brooklands models manufactured between 2007 and 2009. The problem? The retractable 'Flying B' on the hood may corrode to the point that it doesn't retract in the event of a crash. NHTSA says that this could be dangerous for pedestrians for obvious reasons.
Still, if you have to go, it could be worse than getting kabobbed on a Bentley, right?
A total of 596 units are affected by the recall (the retractable Flying B is an optional accessory) and Bentley says that it will replace the faulty mechanism free of charge. The work is set to commence on or around September 27, and owners can call Bentley directly for more information. Hit the jump for a look at the press release.

The current
Bentley Azure may have only been in production for four years, but the platform that underpins it goes back to 1998. Developed back when both
Bentley and
Rolls-Royce were under Vickers ownership, it's the same platform that formed the basis for the
Arnage saloon and
Brooklands coupe. But with the introduction of the
Mulsanne - as we
reported back in September - the old platform is set to be retired altogether.
Now that Bentley is concentrating its efforts on the Mulsanne, the Azure is reportedly the next to be discontinued. But if you're super-wealthy and looking for a way to shuttle yourself and your company around the Riviera in open-air opulence, fret not, because a replacement is on the way.
According to new reports, however, the next-generation Azure (or whatever name Crewe selects for the model) may gain a couple of doors. If so, it would - not withstanding the likes of the
Maybach Landaulet or
Jeep Wrangler - bring back the long-dormant body-style of a four-door convertible, thus separating itself from the
Rolls-Royce Phantom DropHead Coupe with which it will be competing.
